Summary:
Our client in Dulles, VA is in immediate need of a Design Specialist.
This position will support product design and development activities under the direction of a Mechanical Engineer.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Design and modeling of complex mechanical components and assemblies using SolidEdge and/or SolidWorks software packagesCreate engineering drawings and documentation required for fabrication and assembly of designs utilizing commercial design standards.
Assign part tolerances to achieve design intentIncorporate Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) using ASME Y14.
5M-1994 standardDesign ruggedized enclosures and mounting structures for electronic and optical assemblies capable of withstanding extreme environmentsCreate designs capable of achieving certification to MIL-STD-810Work effectively with other engineering disciplines during product development to ensure designs meet system level requirementsIncorporate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) concepts within new products to reduce manufacturing costsSupport formal design reviews and communicate mechanical design conceptsREQUIRED SKILLS AND
Experience:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other technical degree6
years working within conventional engineering drawing practices required5
years' experience with Pro/E (Creo) preferred, Solidworks and/or SolidEdge software consideredDesign and modeling of complex mechanical components and assemblies using Pro/E (Creo) software packagesDesign experience with military grade ruggedized chassis and components, familiarity with DFM, and familiarity with MIL-STD-810 requirements and certificationExperience in the mitigation of shock, vibration, and temperature effects on sensitive electronics and optical equipment through mechanical designExperience designing machined, injection molded, and sheet metal components, as well as experience designing metal castingsMust have ability to obtain and/or maintain DoD clearanceKnowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.
